ABOVE THE DOG FENCE

Between Curnamona Station & Frome Downs Station is the 'dog fence'. The 'dog fence' was built in the 1880s to keep dingoes out of the southern pastoral sheep districts. This man made structure is the longest in the world and the longest fence in the world, stretching 5614 Kms from Queensland, through New South Wales concluding at the Nullarbor Plain South Australia.

Generally sheep are farmed South of the fence, cattle on the Northern side. Hence Frome Downs Station run cattle, this Station is roughly 4 times larger than Mt Victor (as per last blog) consisting of around 2 Million acres.

Every thing is big on Frome Downs, the cattle, the distance, the ability of the staff & the machinery. The machine that pushes this blade weighs 110 Tonne and can push 80 Tonne, it's enormous.

Spending time with people is what Frontier Services is all about. After spending a wonderful evening meal and fellowship with the Station manager and his family. We swagged out doors near some stock yards, only to be woken by the howl of dingoes at first day light, which gives an interesting feeling. As we cooked breakfast, (which happened to be eggs & baked beans on muffins) the station manager & his wife came to our camp and joined us, with a scripture which had been re written by a cowboy "Proverbs 27:9 A visit with an old friend about what is bothering you is like the awesome smell of leather in a saddle shop".

Frome Downs Station, 5-8-2016.

These one on one times, spent talking together are why we travel the distances we do. As we paused in the middle of some where, I'm sure I could smell...leather in a saddle shop.
