West from Arkaroola on Adnyamathanha Land is the Community of Nepabunna, which was originally established as a mission in the 1930s. Now independently managed by the community, this beautifully presented town is home to around 50 people, l had pre arranged our visit and was very much looking forward to spending a couple of days with these great people.
After a brief g'day on arrival, I asked about the camp sites around town to set up our swag camp, only to be ushered to a two bedroom unit at the back of the administration centre. Hot shower, tv, soft mattresses, power, we felt so blessed, the hospitality show to us was very warm.
In the afternoon we were taken for a tour around Nepabunna, Duncan who has lived here his whole life, shared with inspiration the story of his people. This little church built in 1955, over the decades has been a place of Hope & Grace. Currently they only have a service here once a month.
On day two, we had the joy of distributing hand knitted beanies, quilts & pamper items, all these items have been lovingly provided by people from all over SA. These gifts were gladly received by the whole community who came out to join in this time together, except for school aged children, who were in school at Leigh Creek, some 60 kms away.
This Patrol has helped me establish relationship with many key people from all over the North East Pastoral district.
Thank you Nepabunna Community for your love displayed and very much felt.
